"[This] success highlights the importance of protecting intellectual property rights. RJLF achieved a significant victory for Dawgs Footwear, produced by Double Diamond Distribution Ltd., at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Crocs now face allegations of violating federal false advertising laws by misleadingly claiming its shoes are made of "patented" materials, potentially incurring liability for hundreds of millions of dollars.
"This decision is not just a win for us, but for fair competition and for the millions of people who have been harmed by... false advertising," said Steve Mann, CEO of Double Diamond Distribution.

Ninth Circuit Upholds RJLF's Victory
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit issued a landmark decision, with en banc denied in California Restaurant Association v. City of Berkeley, marking a significant victory for RJLF's client California Restaurant Association. Berkeley banned gas stoves. The Ninth Circuit overturned that ban, ruling that it violated federal law. This was a critical decision for the chefs and restaurant owners of the Association, who now can use a preferred energy source for their unique cuisines.
With this decision, the Ninth Circuit has affirmed its straightforward reading of the statutory text and structure. It reinforces that under EPCA, energy policy is a national imperative, demanding unified regulation across the country. State and local governments have regulatory power, but they must comply with federal law.

RJLF Triumphs Over Comic Giants
In October 2024, RJLF scored a major victory against Marvel and DC Comics by persuading the Patent and Trademark Office to cancel Marvel and DC's jointly-owned SUPER HERO trademarks. Working on behalf of independent comic creator S.J. Richold, the firm showed how the two titans of the comic industry used a generic mark to bully competitors and stifle competition. RJLF's work on this matter was featured in national news, including on Law.com, the World Trademark Review, and Law360, as well as in mainstream media outlets like Reuters, The Verge, and Gizmodo.

RJLF represented Barclays Bank in a legal case that alleged several major global banks, including Barclays, conspired to suppress gold prices between 2004 and 2012 as members of The London Gold Fixing Company. The case, heard in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, involved nearly $8 billion in potential damages. Barclays, along with Scotiabank and Société Générale, reached a settlement for an amount that totaled less than 1% of the potential damages.

Complete Defense Verdict in 3rd Criminal Price-Fixing Trial
The RJLF trial team secured a complete defense verdict in an ultra-rare price-fixing trial against the Department of Justice (DOJ). The case stemmed from a high-profile grand jury indictment by the DOJ that charged 10 executives, including RJLF client Roger Austin, a former Vice President of Pilgrim's Pride, alleging a price-fixing scheme in the $28 billion-per-year broiler chicken industry. The trial win earned the team Global Competition Review's 2023 "Behavioural Matter of the Year (Americas)" award, and the case garnered extensive national attention from major news outlets, including The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, and Reuters, among others.
